About Us

Lewiston Area Groomers is the DNR Grant Sponsor responsible for maintaining 124 miles of snowmobile trail in the Lewiston, Michigan area—but we’re not a government agency. We are a 100% volunteer-run group. No one on our team is paid by the DNR or any other organization. We donate our time and labor because we care about the trails and the snowmobiling community.

The Michigan DNR supplies us with the tractors and grooming drags we use, but the rest—from staffing the drivers to maintaining schedules and a LOT of paperwork—falls on us. Our grooming season runs from December 1 through March 31, and as long as Mother Nature cooperates, our main responsibility is to keep the snow surface safe, smooth, and rideable all winter long.

In the fall, before grooming starts, we organize Brushing and Signing workdays to clear trails and prepare for the season. These dates will be posted on our calendar, and volunteers are always welcome.

The Lewiston trail system includes four main runs, plus the town area, divided into geographic sections:

- Northeast run – also called the Avery Loop
- Southeast run – covering the Muskrat Lake area
- Southwest run – known as the Mio run (or to longtime locals, the Roll Trail)
- Northwest run – also referred to as the Gaylord/Lovells run

We do this because we’re riders too—and we know how much a well-groomed trail can make or break a day out. If you’ve ridden the trails around Lewiston, chances are one of our volunteers was out there making it happen the night before.
